Love is in the air

Happy valentines, galentines or every parents dreaded day of February. You know, February 14th, the day millions proclaim their love for someone or eat their feelings in chocolate (and by someone I may mean me). Today is also the day that students across the world unleash about every feeling they hold in that tiny body of theirs into a party of complete chaos and sugar rushes, every teachers worst nightmare. But seriously, you can't tell my feelings about today or that I don't know, I'm glad it is finally the weekend can you? Regardless though, its Valentine's day and love is in the air.
In elementary school, valentines day meant getting loads of sweets and making that extra special valentine for that secret crush of yours. By middle school, you were too cool for those childish shenanigans. And well in high school, Valentine's day signified if your relationship was something or nothing at all. If that young love of yours didn't get you flowers or a gift, you might as well call your relationship quits and prepare to be the gossip of school. Now here you are an adult and finding yourself questioning what this day means anyway, so now what?
For starters let me tell you what Valentine's day is not. It is not a day to determine your self worth, just because you may not have a special someone does not mean you aren't worthy of love. It is also not a day to be cruel or rude to people who get up the courage to express their feelings about you to you. And last, it is not a day to feel guilty about eating those chocolate hearts or treats, love yourself enough to enjoy every bit of those guilt free.
As we are all unique individuals, we express our love in different ways. For some love looks a lot like dressing up fancy and enjoying a nice dinner out on the town. While for others like myself, love is enjoying homemade heart shape pizza in your pajamas, all cuddled up on the couch with your little one watching frozen 2. And while those may be two completely different ways, in the end they both have the same feeling/meaning behind them, love. Love is in the air today, but why just today? I mean why put so much pressure and meaning behind a single day of the year? Today millions chose to express their love in different ways, but today I chose to express my love continuously after valentine's day.
Life is too short as we are all well aware of. Don't wait for a silly day to express how you feel. If you love someone, tell them, then tell them again. Shout it from the roof top and never stop loving them. Ask out that person you have been wanting to, even if it means taking a risk, you will never know unless you try. Love your neighbors, relatives and those you know absolutely nothing about, as love can heal many things. Love is in the air today but that doesn't mean it can't be everyday.
So to answer that pondering question of what does valentines day means now at this age, in honesty it means absolutely nothing to me. Valentine's day is just a simple reminder or nudge on the shoulder for me to hug my little girl that much tighter, send that friend I haven't heard from in a while a text and to thank the good Lord above for His multitude of blessings. Love is in the air today, and always in my house. Happy Valentine's day to all, may you spend your day doing what brings you the most joy surrounded by those you love.
P.S.- Sending lots of well wishes and good vibes to every mom out there tonight who will be faced with the task of putting a over tired, sugar high and unruly kid to bed. May there be enough chocolate hearts and bottles of wine to get you through it.
~To love a person is to see all of their magic, and to remind them of it when they have forgotten it~
